Janet Skinner

ABOUT  THE ARTIST:

Janet Skinner
was born and has resided in Greenfield or the surrounding area all her life.  She began creating objects of art as a child but did not fully focus her efforts toward art until well into her adult life. She studied art at I.U.P.U.I. Herron School of Art and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting in 2001 graduating with High Honors. At Herron she studied under and was influenced by professors Robert Eagerton, David Morrison, Marc Jacobson and Kevin Wolff.

Janet’s mediums of choice vary from graphite, charcoal and pastel to watercolor and oil.  Her subject matter is as varied as her mediums.  However, color usage and manipulation are an important focus in her work.  She also enjoys creating art books for use in journaling and sketching, paper-making and building frames for some of her paintings.  Currently, she is working on “foliar abstractions,” a nature-inspired series.  Over the years, she was won numerous awards for works in pastel, watercolor and oil.

Janet, along with her daughter, Stephanie, currently a Herron School of Art student, will occupy “Convergence Art Studio” on the second floor above Crazy Lake Art House.

Away from the studio, Janet works part-time as a floral designer in a wholesale greenhouse and resides in the Greenfield area with husband Daniel, Stephanie and their two dogs and two cats.
