Central Indiana’s newest art destination will open soon in Greenfield. CrazyLake Art House is located in The Creative Arts Center Greenfield at 2 West Main Street (the historic Masonic Building) in Greenfield, an exciting new home of excellence for the arts.
A Grand Opening celebration is set for Friday, April 11, from 5 – 10 p.m., to coincide with the premier of Greenfield’s monthly Second Friday events, which will include participation by all art, antique, retail and restaurant businesses along Main Street and in the surrounding downtown area. The inaugural Second Friday in Greenfield will also include the first independent film festival, hosted in the restored Ricks Center for the Arts, formerly the Village Theatre.
The second floor artist studios will be open to the public for touring and meeting the artists during the Grand Opening celebration. Between the gallery and the artist studios more than 20 incredibly talented artists are represented. Come out and meet them!
CrazyLake grand opening events will include a solo show of works by emerging local artist Cagney King, who works in Oil, graphite, and Acrylics. King has had a lifelong passion for art and studied art at Ball State and John Herron School of Art. She traveled to Belize on a grant which she won to teach art to third world children. Her work is dynamic and exciting with a truly organic feel. You won’t want to miss her art!
Musical entertainment for the evening will be provided by the brass quintet, Raw Brass, from the fantastic local music group Brandywine Wind. There are also some surprise performances planned and several artistic door prizes!
Also on the menu is a book signing by national artist Chris Sickels, a member of the Greenfield community. Sickels is the creative force behind award-winning Red Nose Studio, and creates illustrations made of endearing characters and intricate sets. His 3-D illustrations, built from a variety of materials, draw you in with wit, intelligence and charm. Sets and puppets are a combination of wire, fabric, cardboard, wood, miniatures, found objects and anything within arm’s reach.
Red Nose Studio's illustrations appear in advertising, magazines, books, newspapers, packaging, character development and animation. His work has been honored by virtually every award institution or annual and has been featured in How, Print, Creativity and 3x3 Magazine, as well as in a number of art and design books including Taschen's Illustration Now!. His first book called The Look Book came out in the fall of 2007. Chris will be present from 7:30 - 8 p.m. to sign copies of the book

The Creative Arts Center Greenfield, located in the historic Masonic Building, will house studio space for artists on the second floor and the supporting gallery, CrazyLake Art House, on the first floor. This beautiful limestone building was constructed in 1895 as the Greenfield Masonic temple, and building owners Bob and Beverly Hunt have taken care to preserve key elements during the extensive 7-month renovation. It is located on the northwest corner of Indiana 9 and Main Street in the heart of Greenfield.
In addition to hosting the artist gallery, CrazyLake will feature classes, workshops, regular featured art exhibits, special events, ArtBar experiences and much more. Class topics will cover drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, digital art, faux painting techniques, fabric art techniques, summer art camp days, scrapbooking, and much more, and will be available to individuals and groups. The gallery will also be available as a rental space for special events.
ArtBar experiences will provide an opportunity for the brown-bag lunch crowd to come in and unwind by making some personal art to take home. A variety of materials will be available on an ongoing basis which a small fee will provide access to, and will also be offered on a “to go” basis!
“The goal is to make CrazyLake Art House not only a premier destination for original fine art” said partner/artist Sandie Dapoz, “but also an educational and social destination that is unique in Central Indiana- a home away from home that encourages living a creative life.”
“It seems to me that more and more people are feeling the need to express their creativity,” Dapoz continued. “It’s as if the crazier the world outside becomes, we feel more strongly a need to get in touch with the world inside to counteract that feeling with an emerging drive to be creative. CrazyLake is focused on providing ways to do that, no matter who you are. Everyone can make art today, and find it satisfying and relaxing,” she concluded.
