ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Cathleen Huffman is a local watercolor artist. After working as an artist and executive in the Indianapolis advertising industry for 10 years, Cathleen started Blue River Design. Her Studio-in-the-Woods is east of Greenfield where she lives with her husband and children. Cathleen's graphics background, in addition to her family ancestry including California artist Emerald J. Winker, lends itself to her current realistic painting style.
Cathleen is involved in preserving local history, and loves to create thematic renderings of endangered architecture. After traveling in European countries, she fell in love with the character of historic architecture – both here and abroad. Our older structures provide insight into the times in which they were created. We can only imagine what went on during the life of a structure. Historic architecture shows detail and workmanship that is unique. As an artist, Cathleen hopes to depict the mystery and beauty of these structures.
Watercolor is a wonderfully transparent medium that depicts fleeting moments and the power of light and shadow. Cathleen uses watercolors and natural light to portray the accurate construction as well as the essence of a scene. Always involved in art in some way, Cathleen is excited for the opportunity to create and display her work.
