ABOUT THE ARTIST: Indianapolis area native and life long resident, Bryan Martinez, even from an early age, loved to illustrate and to cartoon, putting things down with a twist.
Years later he moved on to colored pencil drawings, portraits mostly, and began to get paid for his illustrations. He was the cover illustrator for the U. S. Auto Club’s annual yearbook from 1986 to 1993. He did a lot of racing related illustrations for the “Indy 500” yearbook from 1985-88, using various mediums.
For nine years he was one of two illustrators utilized by the U.S. Postal Service’s Greater Indiana District. In the course of his work there, he designed pictorial postmarks, cover illustrations for special festivals and events, worked in advertising and marketing for the postal service and even supplied the animation via computer for an national award-winning video created to prevent injury to carriers.
In 2000, Bryan turned to fine arts, showcasing, for the most part, local architecture both past and present- often depicting them at night or in strong sunlight for visual contrasts.
Since then, he has won several first place and People’s Choice awards in Greenfield’s annual Will Vawter Art Competition for his pastels.
In 2007, Bryan retired as postmaster of Maxwell, Indiana, turning full time to his creation of art. He now paints exclusively in oils, using both brush and pallet knife.
